claire reynolds“I make pictures as a way of navigating life. The colours, the lines, and the light intermingle, to form a single pattern different every time, no matter what. Just before I take a picture, I feel this strong energy force – it takes over. At this moment, I feel real. I feel honest… And I feel alive.”

CLAIRE LETITIA REYNOLDS was born in Paterson in country New South Wales and is a photographer and mixed media artist.

She first shot portraits in her early teens and completed a BA Communications in Media (film production) at UCACT in 1997. She has been making photographic art on the streets of London, New York and Sydney since 1997, and exhibiting in both group and solo shows from 1998. Reynolds trained with fashion photographer Miles Aldridge in London and produced work for Italian Vogue, New York Times, Numero and American Vogue.

Inspired by the beauty of the Australian landscape and the work of artists such as Moffatt, Man Ray and Mapplethorpe, Reynolds shoots with a conceptual approach, capturing her subjects at their most intimate and familiar moments, whilst producing evocative and enduring narratives.

Her work has taken her to the far corners of Australia, both shooting and teaching photography in remote Aboriginal communities.

Her works blurs the boundaries between art, social commentary and documentary, with a diverse range of clientele from Puma, Nivea, OMD Creative, Sydney Theatre Company, Cockatoo Island Film Festival, Lizard Records, Creat8 Design, SBS, SBS Independent, Foxtel, The Whitehouse Institute of Design, Dungog Film Festival, Look Production, Indigenous Land Commission, Sydney Fashion Week 2007-2011, Casino Magazine, Culture Magazine, Cream Magazine and Pulp Magazine.
